Oldham Coliseum

Oldham, UK

The team at Stage Right have been on a journey with the project to provide a future home for the Oldham Coliseum Theatre Company. Initially we developed a scheme with architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios to transform the former post office and adjacent buildings to include a 284-seat main space and a 120-seat flexible studio space, with an expected construction budget of £24million.

Following a change of brief to respond to public opinion, Stage Right were hired by Tilbury Douglas Contractors alongside Ellis Williams architects to restore the original Coliseum theatre, which further to a re-design and impending construction, is due to reopen in 2026.

This project a good example of our ability to adapt to a changing brief and challenging funding landscape. We were able to tailor the available budget and adjusted demand, as well as maintaining a continuity of attentiveness and professional guidance with stakeholders and senior leadership teams to ensure Oldham’s cultural ambitions were delivered, to create a space that enriches communities whilst preserving its heritage.
