State Theatre

Hong Kong

The project is to restore Hong Kong's last surviving movie palace, which during the 1950's was the home of live music in Hong Kong. The Stage Right team worked with New World Development and architects WilkinsonEyre on initial designs to restore the iconic cultural landmark for the next generation. The venue first opened back in 1952 but has been closed for the last two decades. A new life will be given to a dilapidated cinema, the State Theatre building, a recently listed Grade I historic site at North Point on Hong Kong Island. Our scope of work included the feasibility study and concept design phase during which the Stage Right team  advised on; acoustics, stage engineering, stage lighting and AV systems for the venue which is to host a wide range of performance arts. As well as suggesting modern stage technology systems for the new venue, our initial designs ensured that as much of the original features are retained in the historical venue, such as the iconic parabolic exoskeleton truss at the roof.
