The Octagon Theatre
Bolton, UK
The Octagon refurbishment is a part new build and part restoration project in that the much-loved multi-format auditorium, which was one of the pioneers of telescopic seating (1967) technology is replaced with modern high quality theatre technology based on its original geometry. Flip led the project initially for Fisher Dachs Associates (FDA) and then for Charcoalblue LLP in collaboration with Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (Stage 1-2) and JM Architects. The retained main auditorium walls have a new retractable seating system which is surrounded by new backstage facilities including a new foyer, studio theatre, dressing rooms, offices and rehearsal room.
