The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse
London, UK
At the time, Flip was the head of Fisher Dachs Associates UK office where he worked in close collaboration with John Greenfield (historical architect) and Allies and Morrison Architects on the design of the playhouse. The basis for the design was what is thought to be one of the earliest English playhouses' surviving designs known as document 4b, once thought to be by the hand of Inigo Jones hence the early working title of the project as the 'Inigo Jones Theatre'. Flip worked in close collaboration with the architectural research group and the client team at the Globe to ensure the 340-seat playhouse could be delivered with the right balance between authentic references, an effective performance model and modern building standards. This shows Flip's experience of working with a diverse and complex stakeholder group and achieving an excellent outcome.
